STUTTGART, Germany — Simone Biles broke the female record for most world gymnastics championships medals, leading the U.S. to its seventh straight Olympic or world team title on Tuesday.
The Americans again routed the field, scoring 172.330 points to distance silver medalist Russia by 5.801. Italy took bronze, its first world team medal since 1950, helping keep China off a world podium for the first time since 2003.
Biles earned her 21st world medal, breaking her tie with retired Russian Svetlana Khorkina for the female record. Only 1990s Belarusian Vitaly Scherbo has more with 23, which Biles should surpass by the end of the meet, almost surely her last world championships.
