Shiffrin wins super-G world title, Vonn crashes out

Mikaela Shiffrin won the women’s super-G on Tuesday to kick off the 2019 World Alpine Skiing Championships in Are, Sweden. Shiffrin, who was making her first world championship start in the discipline, charged to the bottom to finish two-one-hundredths ahead of Italy’s Sofia Goggia and five-one-hundredths ahead of Corinne Suter of Switzerland. The result marks Shiffrin’s fourth career world title (and first in a discipline other than slalom).

Lindsey Vonn, who skied immediately after Shiffrin, crashed out and into the nets. After spending a few minutes collecting herself, Vonn was able to ski to the bottom of the course under her own power.
