Petra Vlhova of Slovakia won the women’s giant slalom at Alpine worlds on Thursday, holding off Viktoria Rebensburg in Are, Sweden.
United States skier Mikaela Shiffrin finished third.
Rebensburg took a 0.19 second lead after the first run, with Vlhova in second place and Ragnhild Mowinckel in third, 0.37 seconds behind Rebensburg.
The American was seeking a second gold at this year’s worlds — and fifth in her career — after winning the super-G.
The world championships have been heavily affected by changing weather in central Sweden. The first run of the giant slalom went off from the reserve start.
