NEW YORK — Shalane Flanagan is the first U.S. female runner to win the New York City Marathon since 1977.
It may have been the four-time Olympian’s final marathon.
“I’m not going to show up and save it for another day. I’m completely and 100% all-in for New York,” Flanagan said before the race, according to Sports Illustrated. “Winning the Super Bowl, the NBA Finals or World Series and walking away is the dream. To me that would be the perfect ending to be honest.”
