Seven countries among three continents submitted interest in bidding for the 2026 Winter Olympics before the International Olympic Committee’s deadline.
The group:
Austria (Graz)
Canada (Calgary)
Italy (Cortina d’Ampezzo/Milan/Torino)
Japan (Sapporo)
Sweden (Stockholm)
Switzerland (Sion)
Turkey (Erzurum)
The Olympic host is set to be chosen via IOC members vote in September 2019 in Milan.
The U.S. showed some interest in bidding for the 2026 Olympics last year but in recent months shifted to a potential 2030 Winter Games bid from Denver, Reno-Tahoe or Salt Lake City.
The IOC said in February that four cities entered the initial dialogue phase: Calgary, Sapporo, Sion and Stockholm.
