American Sam Querrey is among more than 10 men’s tennis players ranked in the top 40 expected to miss the Rio Olympics.
Querrey is expected to play in a low-level ATP tournament in Mexico that takes place during the Olympics. Querrey’s place in that event was first announced in April and confirmed by the event on Tuesday.
Querrey, ranked No. 37 in the world, was swept out of the 2008 Beijing Olympics in singles and doubles and failed to qualify for the 2012 London Games.
Querrey is the third-highest ranked American. The U.S. can send no more than four men’s singles players to Rio.
