INDIANAPOLIS – Through one night of competition, Sam Mikulak was well on his way to a third consecutive title at the U.S. Championships.
The former Michigan gymnast opened up more than a two-point lead at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, scoring 92.000.
Mikulak seeks to win another title in the men’s final day of competition on Sunday. To do so, he’ll need more of what he executed here Friday.
He posted the highest event score of the day with 16.25 on parallel bars and had one of only five scores better than 15 on the pommel horse.
On floor, his final event of the night, he stumbled on the landing of a tumbling pass and had to put his hands down.
