Russian swimmer Yulia Efimova chose to bring Michael Phelps into her battle of words with U.S. swimmer Lilly King.
King edged out Efimova in Monday’s 100-meter breaststroke and suggested that Efimova, who had tested positive for doping twice, should be banned from the sport for life. After Efimova’s silver medal performance in Thursday’s 200-meter breaststroke, she was asked to address King’s comments.
Instead, Efimova took a shot at Phelps just as he earned his 22nd Olympic gold medal on Thursday.
