Russia track and field still needs ‘significant work’ to lift ban

Russia needs “significant work” before it can be reinstated to track and field competition, IAAF president Seb Coe said Friday.

“While progress has been made, the [IAAF] council unanimously agreed that the Russian authorities need to undertake further, significant work to satisfy the reinstatement conditions,” Coe said.

Russia was banned from track and field competition in November due to its poor anti-doping record.

“There have been delays in getting effective in- and out-of-competition drug testing up and running … that are only now getting sorted out, just some few weeks ago,” said Rune Andersen, a former WADA director who’s leading the IAAF group inspecting Russia.
