After being off the medal podium for the past two seasons at the World Junior Championships, USA Hockey has turned to one of America’s most decorated coaches to be behind the bench for the 2015-16 tournament in Helsinki, Finland.
Former NHL coach Ron Wilson, 60, was introduced Thursday as the person who will guide the team next December.
“This isn’t a way to get back in the National Hockey League,” Wilson said. “This is a way of repaying USA Hockey.”
Wilson is considered among the top coaches in American hockey history, having led USA to a silver medal at the 2010 Olympics, a gold medal at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey and a bronze medal at the 1996 World Championships.
