Robby Andrews sprinted past Olympic gold medalist Matt Centrowitz in the final straight to win to win the 1,500 meters on Saturday at the U.S. track and field championships in Sacramento.
It's the first U.S. title for Andrews, and the upset of the meet.
Andrews, who came from off the pace in the final turn, finished in 3:43.29, ahead of Centrowitz (3:43.41), who has dealt with a virus and a minor injury this spring. John Gregorek edged Craig Engels for third (3:43.99).
“It feels great to win a race again,” Andrews said. “I’m not gonna lie, it’s been awhile since I’ve won.
