RIO DE JANEIRO — The men’s marathon is the traditional capstone of the track and field competition at the Summer Games. It is scheduled to begin Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. Eastern in Rio’s Sambódromo, the parade grounds for Carnival.
The race will end there, too, a little more than two hours later, and one of these runners is expected to be the first across the finish line:
Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya. He has the fastest time in the world this year, 2 hours 3 minutes 5 seconds.
Stanley Biwott of Kenya. He has the second-fastest time in the world this year, 2:03:51.
