After the Australian Olympic Committee declared the Olympic Village’s accommodations “uninhabitable” ahead of next month’s games in Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes — the mayor of the host city — issued a response:
He offered to get them a kangaroo.
Via the Sydney Morning Herald:
“I almost feel like putting a kangaroo in front of their building to make them feel at home,” Eduardo Paes quipped on Sunday, less than two weeks out from the Olympic Games’ opening ceremony.
While this is something that occurs seemingly every Olympics — fretting about the state of accommodations in the weeks leading up to the games — the allegations about the state of the athletes’ lodging from the Australians are serious.
