Rio Mayor Cautious in Wake of Paris Attack

Mayor Eduardo Paes of Rio de Janeiro expressed confidence in security for next year’s Olympics in his city, but he was also cautious in the wake of the attacks in Paris on Nov. 13. “We have to worry,” the mayor said. “The attacks to Paris were not to Paris but to the civilized world.” Brazilian government officials have said that 85,000 soldiers, police officers and security agents will be deployed for the Rio Games, a force that would be twice as large as the reported one for the 2012 London Olympics.
