Rafael Nadal skips Rogers Cup, confident he’ll be ready for Rio

World No. 4 Rafael Nadal says he is on track to compete in the Rio Olympics, and he pulled out of next week’s Rogers Cup in Toronto to ensure his fitness.

The 2008 Olympic men’s singles gold medalist had to withdraw from the French Open in May after he injured a tendon in his wrist, which also kept him out of Wimbledon. He hasn’t played since May 27 but says he’ll be ready for the round of 64 in Rio, which begins Aug. 6.

“I hope each day to go (progress) a little bit more and arrive in Rio well prepared, although as I always say there is nothing certain in this life,” Nadal said Wednesday.
