For decades, small Indiana towns have sent sons and daughters to the Olympic Games. In the 2000s alone, communities like Elwood, Kendallville, Plymouth, Oaktown, Star City and Woodburn have produced Olympic athletes.
Yet never Carmel. Never from a city that has sent players to the NFL and NBA, won 130 high school sports state titles and assembled club teams that won national championships.
That drought is no more. Carmel diver Steele Johnson is going to the Olympic Games. Based on how he and Noblesville’s David Boudia performed Thursday night, the two are good enough for gold.
