Paralympian Scout Bassett overcomes disability, challenges through running

Scout Bassett appreciates the irony. She got into sports and running to distract herself from her problems, to avoid her feelings about an early childhood in a Chinese orphanage and disability that often left her feeling left out.

But Bassett found running took her to the challenges she faced rather than away from them.

As she prepares for her first Paralympics, the 28-year-old is grateful for all of it.

“I started to run and I’ve continued to run because it’s allowed me to overcome a lot of hard things in my life,” Bassett said as she prepared for Rio.
