The father of the woman slain by Oscar Pistorius broke down while on the witness stand on Day 2 of the sentencing hearing for the South African Olympic sprinter on Tuesday.
Barry Steenkamp shook uncontrollably as he described in Pretoria High Court what he and his wife, June, have endured since the Pistorius shot and killed Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day 2013.
“June has forgiven (Pistorius),” Barry Steenkamp said as he looked at Pistorius. “You still must understand that forgiving like that doesn’t exonerate you from the crime that you committed. He must still understand that he has to pay for that.
