EUGENE — It’s difficult to even imagine what the past month has been like for Ariana Washington.

In early June, the little-known Oregon freshman was preparing for her first NCAA track and field championships.

She had placed second in the Pac-12 in the 100 meters, and third in the 200 meters. Nothing spectacular, but she was someone who could score points for the Ducks at the NCAA meet.

And now, four weeks later, she is a two-time NCAA champion and one of the best American sprinters who is fighting to make the Olympic team.
