TOKYO – At some point Sunday, perhaps after yet another gold medal celebration that has become the defining image of the U.S. women’s basketball program, there are probably going to be some tears. And only a fraction of them will be shed in Saitama Super Arena.
All over America, for every little girl who has been inspired by their achievements or every fan who has given women’s basketball a shot because of what they’ve accomplished, the most golden era of our country’s most bankable sports dynasty will come to a close.
There will surely be great American teams to come.
