BEIJING - The lead-up to the Beijing Olympics was marked by confusion, angst and disappointment.
Why should it be any different now that the Games have actually started?
The U.S. team was shut out of the medals Saturday, the second consecutive Winter Games in which it will have nothing to show for the first official day of competition. Before U.S. fans take consolation in this being par for the course, consider that the o-fer on Day 1 in 2018 was the first in 20 years.
And while it’s probably not fair to compare Winter and Summer results, it is the third consecutive Olympics in which the Americans have come up empty-handed on the first day.
