Li Li Leung, the new president of USA Gymnastics, has made her first big mistake. It’s not career ending, but it certainly is disappointing. The woman who says her top priority is to make things right with Larry Nassar’s survivors made things wrong all over again.
It was just a few seconds on the Today show Wednesday morning, a few insensitive seconds that revealed troubling signs about Leung’s lack of experience in the public eye. In what NBC described as her first on-camera interview in her seven weeks on the job, Leung, a former gymnast, discussed Nassar, saying this:
“I was seen by Larry Nassar myself, but I was not abused by him, and the reason why I wasn’t abused by him is because my coach was by my side when he saw me.
