American male gymnasts have had nearly three years to lament what happened to them at the 2012 London Olympics.
They surprisingly led after the qualifying round. Just as surprisingly, they dropped to fifth in the team final. Danell Leyva won a bronze in the all-around to prevent a medal shutout.
"You know how that feels, and you don't want that to happen again," said Sam Mikulak, an Olympic gymnast who visited Indianapolis this week. "And so the past three years now, it just gives you motivation: 'I don't want that to happen again.' Every day in the gym, it's a constant reminder that we're going to come out on top this time.
