New Zealand's Valerie Adams was the star of qualifying earlier in the day, leading Group A with a toss of 19.74 meters. She entered Friday as the reigning two-time Olympic gold medalist and heavy favorite to take home her third, per Odds Shark.
Germany's Christina Schwanitz took the top spot in Group B with a throw of 19.
