LOS ANGELES (AP) — Two-time Olympic gold medalist Vasyl Lomachenko thinks it's a bad idea for any current professional boxers to try to win medals in Rio de Janeiro this summer.
Lomachenko supports AIBA's decision this week to allow pro boxers to compete in the games, he said Thursday.
The most successful amateur boxer in recent history just thinks they should prepare for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
He also believes the sport's top stars will never risk the weight cuts, frequent fights and short bouts necessary in Olympic competition.
Lomachenko went 396-1 as an amateur for Ukraine, impressively winning gold medals in Beijing and London.
