Olympic skeleton champion unretires at age 43

Maya Pedersen, the 2006 Olympic skeleton champion for Switzerland, is coming out of a six-year international retirement at age 43 to slide for Norway.

Pedersen last competed internationally at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, finishing ninth, according to the International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation.

Married to Norwegian skeleton Olympian Snorre Pedersen, she took multiple breaks during her career for childbirth.

A Norwegian woman has never finished better than ninth at the Olympics, since the sport was re-introduced at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games.

If Pedersen is able to qualify for Pyeongchang, she would become the oldest Olympic skeleton slider since the 1948 St.
