TORONTO – Kim Rhode is not a boastful athlete, but she was kind of looking forward to talking about the slice of history she had just created in London three years ago.
Instead, as she settled into a media conference moments after becoming the first American to medal in an individual Olympic sport in five straight Games, all anyone wanted to quiz her about was James Eagan Holmes.
Days earlier, on July 20, 2012, Holmes had embarked upon the Aurora shooting rampage, when he entered a Colorado theater and opened fire on innocent moviegoers at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises.
