LOS ANGELES — Carl Lewis knows he’s going to tick a lot of people off with his criticisms, and he doesn’t much care.

What are they going to do, take away his nine Olympic gold medals?

Three decades after his historic four-gold performance at the Los Angeles Games, Lewis remains as outspoken as when he was competing. On Tuesday, he ripped USA Track & Field for its “appalling” performances recently in the men’s sprint events, traditionally a gimme for gold medals, as well as its total inability to master a simple baton handoff.
