The 2012 Olympic gold medalist in the long jump soared at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials with a world-leading leap.
Brittney Reese earned a mark of 23-feet, 11 ¾ inches for her fourth jump in Saturday’s final. Not only was it a personal best for Reese and the longest jump in the world in 2016, and it was the second longest jump ever by a U.S. female athlete. Only Jackie Joyner-Kersee has notched a longer jump.
The other two qualifiers for Rio in women’s long jump are Tianna Bartoletta and Janay DeLoach.
Bartoletta spent Saturday competing in two simultaneous events: the long jump final and 100m qualifying heats.
