AUSTIN – Austin runner Sarah Rimel lived every runner’s worst nightmare during the 2018 California International Marathon.
She urgently had to use the bathroom. Twice.
To make matters worse, she had flown all the way out to Sacramento in order to pursue the Olympic Trials qualifying time, 2:45 (a 6:17 mile pace), on the infamously fast course.
Around mile six, Rimel stopped and crouched behind a van parked on the course to relieve herself. She felt better for maybe two minutes.
She stopped again at mile nine.
