Micronesia beaten by a combined 114-0 in Olympic men’s soccer qualifying

Micronesia’s men’s soccer team was unceremoniously eliminated from Olympic qualifying, losing its three matches by a combined 114-0 in an Oceania qualifying tournament.

Micronesia fell 30-0 to Tahiti, 38-0 to Fiji and, on Tuesday, 46-0 to Vanuatu, which had one player score 16 goals at the Papua New Guinea-hosted event.

Micronesia coach Stan Foster said most of his players had “never been out of their villages let alone on to another island,” according to the Guardian. “This is kindergarten for us.”

Micronesia was making its first attempt to qualify for an Olympic men’s soccer tournament.
