After a rough last 13 months, Tony Martin is once again the world’s top time trialist.
The German won his fourth world road cycling championships time trial on Wednesday in Doha, Qatar, matching the career record held by Swiss Fabian Cancellara.
Martin, 31, captured three straight world time trial titles from 2011-13 (plus 2012 Olympic silver) but fell to seventh place in 2015 (his worst finish since 2008) and was 12th at the Rio Olympics.
“Everybody know that I haven’t had a good year so far,” Martin said. “Last race, getting world champion, it’s incredible.
