Michael Phelps Is Named a Captain on the U.S. Men’s Olympic Swim Team

Michael Phelps achieved a first heading into his fifth Olympics. He was chosen as a captain of the United States men’s swimming team.

Phelps joined the veteran sprinters Nathan Adrian and Anthony Ervin as captains after being voted in by team members. Phelps owns a record 22 Olympic medals, including 18 golds. Adrian and Ervin are three-time Olympians, while Phelps’s fifth Olympic berth is the most for an American male swimmer.

Serving as captains for the women’s team will be Cammile Adams, Elizabeth Beisel and Allison Schmitt. Adams is a two-time Olympian. Beisel and Schmitt will compete in their third Games.
