Looking for their second consecutive Olympic gold medal in men’s soccer, Mexico announced Sunday night that it is now looking for a replacement for the team captain.
Forward Oribe Peralta, who scored in Mexico’s group stage opener against Germany and played all 90 minutes in the team’s 5-1 win over Fiji Sunday, has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament due to a broken nose. The Mexican National Team announced the news, stating that a replacement for Peralta will be announced as soon as possible.
Peralta is returning to his club team, Club America in Mexico, to undergo surgery to repair a broken bone in his nose.
