Olympic 1500m champion Matthew Centrowitz was beaten in the 1500m, but still earned a world championships team spot on Saturday.
Robby Andrews edged Centrowitz at the USATF Outdoor Championships, part of the TeamUSA Summer Champions Series, presented by Comcast.
Andrews, in fifth place going into the final lap, surged past Centrowitz on the last straightaway in Sacramento to win in 3:43.29. Centrowitz was second in 3:43.41.
Centrowitz, who in Rio became the first U.S. Olympic 1500m gold medalist in 108 years, had won at his last three national meets in 2013, 2015 and 2016.
