Markus Rehm, the amputee long jumper who won the 2014 German title against able-bodied jumpers and has the farthest jump by a German this year, was not on the German team nominated for the World Track and Field Championships announced Wednesday.
The omission was expected, as Rehm had to compete separately at the German Championships on Friday night as the German track and field federation “has used biometric studies to rule that his carbon-fiber prosthesis gives him an unfair advantage,” according to The Associated Press.
Rehm’s 8.11m jump Friday was the farthest jump of the night among all jumpers at the German Championships.
