Ted Ligety crashed through a giant slalom gate, and rival Marcel Hirscher took full advantage, winning for the second straight day in Beaver Creek, Colo., on Sunday.
Hirscher, the four-time reigning World Cup overall champion, notched his 33rd career World Cup victory, prevailing by .98 of a second over two runs. France’s Victor Muffat-Jeandet was second, followed by Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen.
Hirscher, who also captured a super-G on Saturday, is now tied with Bode Miller for seventh on the all-time men’s World Cup wins list.
Ligety, the Olympic and World giant slalom champion, hoped to win his sixth straight Beaver Creek giant slalom.
