KRANJSKA GORA, Slovenia (AP) — Marcel Hirscher won the penultimate men’s World Cup slalom Sunday to secure his record-extending seventh straight World Cup overall title.
The two-time Olympic champion from Austria stretched his lead over his only remaining rival, Henrik Kristoffersen, to 289 points. The Norwegian cannot overtake Hirscher as he will only compete in two more races this season.
Hirscher became the first skier in the 51-year history of the World Cup to win seven overall titles. Fellow Austrian Annemarie Moser-Proell won six times on the women’s circuit (not all consecutive) in the 1970s.
