Magnussen added to Australia's swim team for Olympics in Rio

SYDNEY (AP) — Two-time world champion James Magnussen is a late addition to the Australian swim team for the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, securing a relay spot almost two months after missing individual selection for the 100-meter freestyle.

Magnussen was a hot favorite for gold in the 100 at the London Olympics in 2012 but finished with the silver medal by 0.01 of a second in a meet overshadowed by out-of-the-pool behavioral issues for the Australian men's relay team.

Nicknamed "The Missile," Magnussen missed the 2015 world championships after surgery on his left shoulder and couldn't recover in time to earn one of the two automatic selections in the 100, finishing fourth at the national Olympic trials in April.
