After much speculation Sunday morning, NBC’s Billy Bush confirmed that Team USA swimmer Ryan Lochte and three other Team USA swimmers were robbed at gunpoint on Saturday.
Lochte’s mother told USA Today that the swimmer was on his way to a party in Rio de Janeiro when he was robbed.
The 32-year-old Rochester, N.Y. native has 12 Olympic medals, six of them gold, including top honors in the 4×200 freestyle relay this year.
According to USOC spokesman Patrick Sandusk:
“According to four members of the U.S. Olympic Swimming Team (Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger, Jimmy Feigen and Ryan Lochte), they left France House early Sunday morning in a taxi headed for the Olympic Village.
