SAN JOSE, Calif. — Simone Biles is halfway to another national title.
The four-time Olympic champion finished the first night of competition at the U.S. gymnastics championships with 59.3 points, more than 2.5 points ahead of reigning world all-around silver medalist Shilese Jones. It’s also .2 better than Biles did at the U.S. Classic earlier this month, her first meet back since the Tokyo Olympics.
Competition concludes Sunday night.
If Biles is feeling any rust, she’s very quickly knocking it off. She had two wobbles on balance beam, and overcooked her signature pass, the Biles I, on floor exercise, taking a big hop out of bounds.
