Lindsey Vonn gets airborne, skis out of Val d’Isère downhill

Lindsey Vonn was on pace for a record-tying victory, skiing faster than anybody else, when a brief loss of control ended her day.

Vonn hit a bump midway through a World Cup downhill race in Val d’Isère, France, her left ski went airborne, becoming parallel to the ground, and she eventually landed and skied safely off the course for a DNF.

That ended her bid for a record-extending 72nd World Cup win and record-tying 36th downhill victory.

Instead, Swiss Lara Gut prevailed for a second straight day, assuming no late skiers pull off a stunner, after taking a super combined by .
