BOSTON — Lelisa Desisa was able to savor his second victory in the Boston Marathon.
Desisa won his second Boston title in three years by breaking away late in Monday's race, then striding the final two miles all alone before a warm reception on Boylston Street.
"I took off my hat and started waiving my hands because I love the Boston people," Desisa said.
The feeling was quite mutual. Boston fans are unlikely to forget the touching gesture Desisa made two years ago when he gave his 2013 first-place medal to the city as a tribute to the victims of the bombings at the finish line.
