SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) — Alexander Kristoff held off Peter Sagan to win Stage 7 of the Tour of California on Saturday, while Julian Alaphilippe held onto his overall lead heading into the final stage.
With his Katusha team doing most of the work at the front of the peloton, Kristoff surged to the front in the final mile. Sagan tried to freestyle his way to a third stage win this year, but Kristoff proved to be too much after the 109-mile ride that began and ended in Santa Rosa.
Sagan was second for Tinkoff with Danny Van Poppel of Team Sky in third.
