Kristin Armstrong, the only U.S. women’s cyclist with multiple Olympic gold medals, will come out of retirement to compete next month for the first time since 2012.
Armstrong, who captured 2008 and 2012 Olympic time trial gold, was named to the USA Cycling roster for the Pan American Continental Road Championships in Mexico from May 5-10.
If Armstrong, a 41-year-old with a 4-year-old son, makes it to the Rio Olympics, she could try to become the first female cyclist to win three golds in the same event.
She retired after the 2008 Olympics, then came back, broke her collarbone two months before the London Games and returned to take gold.
