Katie Ledecky breaks another NCAA record

Katie Ledecky broke her second NCAA swimming record in a week, taking three seconds off the 500-yard freestyle mark at a meet at Ohio State on Friday.

Ledecky, who won four Olympic gold medals in Rio, clocked 4:27.54 in her preliminary swim. That easily beat the previous NCAA record of 4:30.37 held by Olympic teammate Leah Smith.

The time was just shy of Ledecky’s American record of 4:26.58 set in February 2015. Ledecky can go after that mark in the 500-yard free final at Ohio State on Friday night. Full meet results are here.
