BOSTON — Seven-time NASCAR Cup champion Jimmie Johnson finished his first marathon, covering the Boston Marathon in 3:09:07 on Monday.
Johnson, a 43-year-old who placed 12th in the Toyota Owners 400 on Saturday in Richmond, just missed his stated pre-race goal of breaking three hours. Still, he averaged 7 minutes, 13 seconds per mile.
Johnson, wearing bib 4848 to correspond to his No. 48 Chevrolet, did get bragging rights over former NASCAR driver Jamie McMurray, who ran a 3:14 marathon in December.
“It’s always been of interest to me, endurance sports,” Johnson told NBC Sports before the race.
