Switzerland’s Daniela Ryf, the reigning Ironman World champion, said she will not enter a third straight Olympic triathlon in Rio, according to Swiss media citing the Aargauer Zeitung newspaper.
Ryf, 28, finished seventh at the Beijing 2008 Olympics and 40th at London 2012.
She moved up to the Ironman distance in 2014, finishing second in her Kona debut before winning the title Oct. 10. She’s also the two-time reigning Ironman 70.3-mile World champion.
Ryf could have arguably been the biggest threat in Rio to U.S. Olympic gold-medal favorite Gwen Jorgensen for two reasons.
