The IOC provisionally suspended the Brazil Olympic Committee and its president, Carlos Nuzman, after he was arrested Thursday amid an investigation into a vote-buying scheme to bring the Games to Rio last year.
The decision does not affect Brazilian athletes, who can still compete in international events, including the 2018 Winter Olympics.
“The provisional suspension may be lifted partly or fully when the governance issues of the [Brazil Olympic Committee] have been addressed to the satisfaction of the [IOC executive board],” the IOC said in a press release Friday.
Nuzman, who is an honorary IOC member, was held for questioning last month by Brazilian and French authorities.
