IOC creates working group to study Olympic bidding

USA TODAY Sports

The chance of a joint award of the 2024 and 2028 Olympics when the International Olympic Committee meets in September seemed to grow more likely Friday when the IOC announced the creation of a working group to consider changes to the candidature process.

IOC president Thomas Bach said “all options are on the table,” leaving open the possibility that Los Angeles and Paris could each be selected as an Olympic host.

Both cities have said they are focused on securing the 2024 Games when the IOC votes in September, but with two strong bids and a desire to fix a process that “produces too many losers,” Bach has fueled speculation of a joint award for four months.
